I received my Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Malaysia in 2021 (UTM is one of the top 200 universities around the world according to QS ranking). I also received my M.Eng. degree in Geotechnics from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Malaysia in 2018. and obtained my B.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Khartoum (UofK), Sudan in 2013. All the courses that I have attended in my B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. are closely related to Civil Engineering in general while specializing in Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering.

My research focuses on soil stabilization, ground improvement, slope stability, and geoenvironmental engineering. In my PhD thesis, I have used a new technique that is more environmentally friendly it is called Mineral Carbonation (MC). The technique involves the use of calcium (Ca+) and magnesium (Mg+) rich material (ground granulated blast furnaces slag) which have the potential to absorb and sequester CO2 permanently. Thus, cause the reduction of CO2 in the atmosphere while beneficial for increasing the soil strength quickly. The process also is favorable as it does not rely much on pozzolanic reaction as conventional soil stabilizers. (MC) is the most promising methodology for permanently storing CO2. It encompasses minerals comprising calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg) with CO2 to produce Ca/Mg carbonated products. Using a waste material (GGBS) for soil stabilization to replace traditional additive while sequestering CO2 has an additional value that will reduce the global warming which will reflect positively on the weather by decreasing the temperature.

I have published several papers on the ISI impact factor during my Ph.D and afterword. I have been awarded FRGS grant year 2019 supported by Ministry of Education (Malaysia) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Furthermore, I was obtained the best postgraduate student award, Doctor of Philosophy Field of Research: Civil Engineering. I have self-sufficient, excellent communication, writing, and data interpretation skills. I can work independently and dependently on scientific research investigations. Moreover, I’m a very passionate researcher. I believe that my research ideas on soil stabilization while permanently sequestering carbon dioxide from the atmosphere to reduce the global warming effect will benefit future generations around the world.

Currently I am working at APEC Industries Composite Polymeric Materials LLC in United Arab Emirates as a geotechnical engineer. My key responsibilities include the design of sustainable geosynthetics geo-composite materials to replace the conventional methods for drainage system (layers), road layer reinforcements, landfills containment system, lagoons waterproofing systems, capillary breaks and root barriers. This replacement of conventional systems is proven to be less costly and more environmentally friendly (minimizing the use of natural material for sustainable purposes). The use of such materials will benefit the community as it will reflect clearly in the economy and hey can also be optimistic about a bright future that achieves sustainability and reduces the consequences of global warming.

I was work as an Assistant Professor at National University and International University of Africa, during my time there I have taught different subjects to undergraduate students such as: Soil Mechanics, Foundation Engineering, Highway Engineering, Mechanics of Materials, Quantity Surveying and Estimation and Structure Analysis. I also supervised the graduation projects of undergraduate students. I was the head of geotechnical engineering laboratory in the International University of Africa.

As a teaching assistant for over a year, I have taught tutorials and laboratories of different subjects for undergraduate students such as: Soil Mechanics, Foundation Engineering, Highway Engineering, Hydraulic Structures, Mechanics of Materials and Fluid Mechanics. In these tutorials and laboratories, I had the opportunity to exercise my teaching philosophy of combining a solid theoretical foundation with practical hands-on experience. As a part of my teaching duties, I also attended advanced teaching workshops and seminars, where I practiced and discussed different teaching issues and course design techniques.

I have a good experience in the Geotechnical Engineering field, I have worked as a geotechnical engineer for Building and Road Research Institute (B.R.R.I) which is known as the leading company in geotechnical engineering in Sudan. During my time there I supervised the laboratory testing, prepared the geotechnical data for the service projects and helped in preparing the soil reports. I have good knowledge of using Plaxis 2D as well as GeoStudio (Slope W and Seep W). My industrial experiences helped me teach the subjects well, and I delivered to the students simply understanding of the correlation of theoretical knowledge and practical concepts.

In short, by adopting a teaching philosophy that collects a robust theoretical background with hands-on experience, my goal is to bind theory with practice, thus delivering the knowledge gained during years of research first to students, and through them, to the whole society. I recognize my role as an assistant professor as a channel to disseminate the lessons learned in communication engineering research by training and teaching the leading industry professionals and researchers of the future.
